The ePortfolio is designed to help trainees draw together the information that will help them on the path to becoming a good doctor. With the assistance of their educational supervisor, it will help them to plan their skills development and allow them to demonstrate the attainment of the attitudes, skills and knowledge that they need to complete the Foundation Programme.

From August 2017 this system will be replaced by HORUS. Please note the training webinar below, is an invitation for all users of ePortfolio, FSDs and FSMs in HEE foundation teams, plus FSDs and FSMs in devolved nations foundation teams, medical school, specialty and junior doctor reps, UKFPO and HEE national reps. This invitation for the first in a series of 3 webinars run by the HEE Horus ePortfolio team .

Horus ePortfolio for medical foundation / Training for administrators - Update

GoToWebinar Invitiation / Supervisor familiarisation - HEE Horus ePortfolio for medical Foundation / Thursday 29 Jun 2017 10:00-12:00

Please register for Supervisor familiarisation / HEE Horus ePortfolio for medical Foundation on Jun 29, 2017 10:00 AM BST at: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6688011856133033729

The webinar will be run using GoToWebinar, which has an attendee limit of 500. Attendees need to register to receive a joining link, but registration is free and the link will be provided automatically following it.

ACTION REQUIRED: You should have already received an invitation to attend the webinar.

The webinar will be recorded and the recording made available to all attendees 1 day after the webinar. It will also be uploaded to the Horus support site approximately 1 week after the webinar.

The aim of this webinar is to familiarise users with the layout of Horus and show supervisors and the administrators who support them the main tasks they will need to perform in the system.

The webinar will be recorded and the recording shared.

Note that we will be using the training version of Horus for the demonstration, where some features and functionality is not yet available or is in a temporary format. We are working hard on making these features available in the live version of Horus.

Meanwhile, please visit the Horus support at http://support.horus.hee.nhs.uk/ for lots of information on accessing Horus and undertaking common tasks. If you're not able to find an answer to something you're looking for, see our contact details below.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

  • Inc postgraduate centre administrators, foundation programme directors, foundation school administrators, foundation school managers and foundation school directors
  •  As stated below, the rrecent webinar was recorded and below are some options on accessing the recording.

Option 1: Click here to view the recording through WebEx Online.

Note 1: The same functionality is required to play this recording, as it is to attend a WebEx webinar. Therefore, if WebEx is blocked by your local IT you will not be able to access this recording either. Some webinar attendees have said that they were able to access the session using tablet devices, so please consider this as an option if you have access to a tablet device.

Note 2: The recording will only be available here for a short time (possibly a week or so), as it will be removed when required to make space for other HEE recordings as necessary. At this moment, the Horus team cannot confirm exactly how long it will be available for.

Option 2: Click here to start a download of the WebEx recording

Note 1: This is a 27.3MB MP4 file that most computers should be able to play through Windows Media Player or equivalent. However, some users may have download limits or other features blocked by their local IT service, which may mean they are not able to access this recording.

Note 2: This file will remain available here for as long as we need.

Option 3: The recording is in the process of being embedded into the newly published Horus Support Site. It is not yet viewable at the time of writing, but I anticipate it being available here by the end of the week.

Note 1: Similar video functionality used on the e-Learning for Healthcare website is used here, so if you are able to access interactive modules on e-LfH you should be able to access this video.

Note 2: The recording, once embedded, will remain available here for as long as we need. The Horus team will send another email once that it is available.

If you do have any issues accessing any of these options, please do let the Horus team know by emailing them directly on: enquiries.horus@hee.nhs.uk

The ePortfolio is based on the Foundation Programme Curriculum published by the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO).

A revised foundation programme curriculum came into effect from August 2016 and can be accessed here.

Trainees and supervisors should read this Curriculum carefully as it will help them to understand the areas that need to be covered during the Foundation Programme and the standards that will be expected of trainees. The UKFPO have also published a Curriculum Resource document, which aims to assist foundation doctors and their trainers in understanding and meeting the requirements of the Foundation Programme Curriculum. This additional resource will be updated in line with the FP Curriculum 2016 and will be published on the UKFPO website shortly.

Position statement on trainees' written reflections (April 2016)

Recently, a trainee released a written reflection to a legal agency, when requested, which was subsequently used as evidence against the trainee in court. This has resulted in questions about whether trainees should still provide reflection about incidents in their ePortfolios.

The London and South East Postgraduate Deans and Responsible Officers for postgraduate medical trainees have produced a statement to clarify the position with regards to trainees' written reflections within ePortfolios. Please see the document on the right hand side of this page.

ePortfolio Systems

Foundation doctors completing programmes during 2015/16 and 2016/17 will use the ePortfolio provided by NHS Education Scotland which can be accessed by clicking here.

From August 2017, all STFS foundation doctors will use Horus ePortfolio system. For further information about the Horus system click here.
