The ePortfolio is designed to help trainees draw together the information that will help them on the path to becoming a good doctor. With the assistance of their educational supervisor, it will help them to plan their skills development and allow them to demonstrate the attainment of the attitudes, skills and knowledge that they need to complete the Foundation Programme.

The ePortfolio is based on the Foundation Programme Curriculum published by the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO).

A revised foundation programme curriculum came into effect from August 2016 and can be accessed here.

Trainees and supervisors should read this Curriculum carefully as it will help them to understand the areas that need to be covered during the Foundation Programme and the standards that will be expected of trainees. The UKFPO have also published a Curriculum Resource document, which aims to assist foundation doctors and their trainers in understanding and meeting the requirements of the Foundation Programme Curriculum. This additional resource will be updated in line with the FP Curriculum 2016 and will be published on the UKFPO website shortly.

Position statement on trainees' written reflections (April 2016)

Recently, a trainee released a written reflection to a legal agency, when requested, which was subsequently used as evidence against the trainee in court. This has resulted in questions about whether trainees should still provide reflection about incidents in their ePortfolios.

The London and South East Postgraduate Deans and Responsible Officers for postgraduate medical trainees have produced a statement to clarify the position with regards to trainees' written reflections within ePortfolios. Please see the document on the right hand side of this page.

ePortfolio Systems

Foundation doctors completing programmes during 2015/16 and 2016/17 will use the ePortfolio provided by NHS Education Scotland which can be accessed by clicking here.

From August 2017, all STFS foundation doctors will use Horus ePortfolio system. For further information about the Horus system click here.
